LINDACREST HILL HOUSE
Hollylwood Hills, California, Proposal

A house designed to fit on a difficult upslope hillside lot. Narrow at the base and wide at the top, the lot presents daylight challenges inherited from restrictive zoning setbacks and height limitations. Given the Los Angeles climate and the desire for indoor-outdoor living, the design creates artificial outdoor spaces on the roof, vertically through the stair shaft, and above the garage through a hedge wall running along the kitchen and living room spaces. These "natural" spaces double as opportunities to pull daylight into the depths of the massing and animate even the most embedded areas with sunlight.
