Linda Taalman and Alan Koch met at Cornell University in 1992 as students in the undergraduate architecture program. Alan Koch graduated with a BArch from Cornell University in 1995 and Linda Taalman graduated with a BArch from the Cooper Union in 1997. Choosing to work for themselves shortly after graduating, Taalman & Koch founded OpenOfffice arts + architecture collaborative in New York City and began to develop a unique methodology of approaching architecture through intensive collaboration with artists, designers, and institutions on projects including the Dia: Beacon museum, a Masterplan for Public Art and Exhibition at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Houses x Artists. In 2002, the Architectural League of New York recognized their comprehensive work and promise with the Emerging Voices award.

After the completion of the Dia : Beacon project in 2003, Alan Koch and Linda Taalman moved to the west coast to pursue a broader scope of architectural research, establishing Taalman Koch Architecture in Los Angeles. Since moving west, they have completed a range of architectural projects including several residences, a contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles and a master plan in collaboration with Tom Leader Studio for an archeological park in Castellemarre, Italy. In addition to client originated projects ,Taalman and Koch continue to develop speculative architecture projects as a central part of their practice, including the development and marketing of their pre-fabricated iT house (2008 AIA Award), the design and construction of the Small Skyscraper in collaboration with Chris Burden, and a high desert research project in collaboration with Kathleen Johnson.

Since 1997, Taalman & Koch have collaborated extensively with artists and arts institutions, demonstrating a commitment to the pursuit of a thriving relationship between art and architecture.

Both Taalman & Koch are registered architects in California and New York.
